Wow, we still have these things in the UK, but what they do is either have a single cubicle with a paid timer lock or they have gates on the entrance to the bathroom area using the sort of turnstiles you would get at a football game or subway entrance.
I remember these locks when I was a kid. I also remember people climbing over or crawling under the stall doors (or paying me to do so because they didn't have the right change).
I like that feminism could seemingly only defeat a very flimsy, easy to defeat lock.
The idea of having to pay to use a public bathroom is absolutely asinine to me. I blows me away that this kind of stuff is somehow still not only common, but more or less standard pretty much all over europe. It truly makes no sense.
But please, tell me more about the "oppresshun" that type faces when they can get any lock they don't like banned.
What are you prattling on about?
I wonder if these helped keep toilets a little cleaner? I have only seen this in 1 toilet in my life
$0.05 in 1920 = $0.67 in 2020
I remember them in Canada in the 70's. Not sure exactly when they disappeared.
There was a department store called Jamesway in NJ that had these on the bathroom doors in the early 1990s. They weren't on stall doors, but on the actual door to the mens and womens bathroom, so you had to put in a dime just to get in. They weren't the same exact locks you have but similar and more modern looking.
I mean did feminism really need to defeat a lock that could be opened with a hairpin, of which women carried in abundance?
That is gross.
Today's FeMiNeStS* deserve it.At this point they are just trying to make women supreme.DOWN WITH THE fEmInIsTs!Glory to Arstotzka!! *The reason FeMiNiStS was put like this is because that is how it deserves to be spelled.
pick a chastity lock!
The women’s rights movement was a mistake... Yeah I said it.
"Yeah I said it." I don't think women have too much to worry about...
Look at this photograph, Everytime I see it it makes me cry.
If the genders were really equal, women would've just gone outside and peed on a bush like a man if they didn't want to pay.
So the lock was defeated by men who supported womens rights you mean?
Nickelback lol they had some good songs.
Just sitting on the shitter and hearing "This is the Lock Picking Lawyer..." right out front would help me get my business done faster because I don't wanna get caught with my pants down. LOL
now lets talk about womens wrongs LPL
GD pink hairs ruin everything.
Pay toilets are still common in Europe. The toilets at Saint Stephens Green Shopping Center in Dublin, Ireland, and the Copenhagen Central Train Station in Denmark are pay only. You have to give 50 cents to an attendant outside, but everyone has to pay to get in, both men and women. The argument is that you’re paying for the attendants to keep it clean and to keep the heroin junkies out.
Quickest way to have someone take a dump on your front entryway is to use one of these locks.
for men, this lock is easily bypassed by just crapping in the urinal.
Just out of spite
feminism destroying everything since 1920 lol :D
First time I saw one of these was in California back in the early 90's
What a shitty lock.
You have to pay to use the restroom in some countries I’ve been to at airports and train stations
no one wants the Nickelback X) !! jk
I remember these as a kid. Then they were gone.
In Germany, we have solved this differently: You need to insert a coin at a barrier before you even get to the man-woman separation. Everyone pays, nobody complains, and the companies make .50 to 2 € per visit of the porcelain throne. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why german inventions are the best in the world: We dont "fix" the problem, we overcomplicate it and solve it with the help of at least three engeneers, two government officials, and twelve high-pay outside professionals.
Imagine having to pay 5c just to pee because you’re a woman.... imagine having to pay 25c just to get a pad because you’re a woman.... hm... what’s really changed?
"Lets try to get my NICKELBACK"
he said nickleback
These Kinda Still Exist In The UK At Beaches Except They Are More Modern Looking And Fashionable, Cost 60p To GO In
I don't care if the door locks in the bathroom, I care if the walls are actual walls
"Here I sit, all broken-hearted. Paid my dime, but only farted."
It's 1920, your in the bathroom stall. Suddenly you hear, "Click out of one, nothing on two..."
As urinals had no doors they could not use locks, thus people took their dumps in the urinals. With urinal cleaning time being both costly and a considerable hassle the toilet locks were removed. Ultimately, the pay locks were defeated by human waste.
Interesting how anyone who knew the safety opener up in the corner could've gotten into the toilet for free. It's disguised as a keyhole but you didn't need a key at all to open it, a simple hairpin would've done the trick.
Can you show us how to open vending machines?
There I sat broken hearted paid my penny and only farted.
Pay, toilet.... Excuse you?
They should have kept the locks and increased the price to keep women at home.
@Justin Bohner Poor old you
@David Michael Translation for your comment : "I'm a spineless beggar who wants to be ruled by weaklings"
Translation: "Women intimidate me"
Nickel back imao
Aw man, I was hoping you were going to tell us that women in the old days came up with a clever way to circumvent these locks.
Greyhound bus station, Birmingham AL, 1977. you needed a quarter. I sent my little boy under the door.
It was weird to me when I went to the UK and public toilets had turn styles to get in.
Women did not want to piss standing up, so the men had to pay for it...
“Let’s get my nickel back” *sings* look at this anti feminine crap
You want to get your Nickel-back without looking at this photograph? Bold!
women: "why women need to pay more for public toilet entry? we need equal rights!!!" men: "Well, you're welcomed to pee without walls like us..."
Hi LockPickingLawyer in a museum about 1 hour away from me I found a similar lock to that.
A cup of coffee is still only 5¢ at Wall Drug!
These videos make me weird af. Anytime I see a keyhole, I have to check it out and see how easy it would be to pick. Someone help. I can't stop opening random locks (I lock them back up dont worry)
I honestly didn’t see any issue with this lock at all, up until I found out you had to pay to use it. That is pretty messed up lol.
lol he said Nickelback
I can remember some stores having pay toilets, but it was to get into the restroom, not for each stall. I can even remember a McDonald's in downtown having one, but I think that was mainly to keep out the street bums...
Lol love the title, I thought it was going to be opened just by nagging at it
Nowadays, instead of a lock, they have an old laldy at the entrance with a plate lol
Pfffff in most towns in the UK it costs you 20p to use public toilets. No 20p .... no pee.
According to www.usinflationcalculator.com/ 5 cents in 1913 is worth about $1.31 now.
Haha, he said Nickelback.
Am I the only one who wants to install one of these on my guest bathroom door?
It was only about 15 years ago that I encountered a bathroom at an El Pollo Loco that had a coin operated lock.
Imagine seeing this lock when you have explosive diarrhea.....
Honestly, why the hell were people ever being charged for using the fucking bathroom?
Locks like this are still in use in Germany.
I remember pay toilets used to be called a Johnny Cash.
Beginning: Was banned because of gender equality wasn't put mens bathrooms. Me: Makes sense, sucks for guys who don't get these nice big locks in there bathrooms women must have loved these. *Puts nickel in slot* Me: ooooooh........
ewww, he wants nickleback. Get the torches!
back in the 1970's there was a gas station in Helen, Ga. that had pay locks on the bathroom doors. It was 10 cents to unlock. No discrimination as it was on the door to get in and not the toilet stall. I had a large family, mom, stepdad, 1 sis 2 bros, and 3 step bros. I was the 2nd one in and when I came out and was holding the door, everyone else was standing around and talking. I stood there and held the door open. waiting. I even said "NEXT!" I waited for about 30 seconds, No one moved. I let the door shut, and they all started yelling at me for letting the door close. An hour later when I spoke, I felt like E.F. Hutton. If you remember the old slogan "when E.F. Hutton speaks, people listen".
What is the Secondary 'hardly a lock' for ?
What a dumb reason to get rid of these
(in the UK)- Where the term "spend a penny" was coined.
You pick the lock I tie a string around the coin and my finger and pull the coin back out like Mr Krabs. We are the same
Me: *sees title* Me: "The lock couldn't take any more shot"
I love the variety you have in your videos. Its not always just about beating the "strongest" lock. A little bit of interesting history. Thank you!
I don't get it. Most public restrooms in Sweden have those, not as old but same thing.
''let's get my nickel back'' **suddenly have the urge to listen to Photograph and Savin' Me**
1:23 lol he said Nickelback
You have a nice day too!
Did anyone else expect him to pick it with some sort of women's hygiene product like a tampon?
In Germany you have to pay for using the bathrooms at most gas stations at the Autobahn. Many other public bathrooms have a plate at the entrance where you are supposed to leave a tip (50 cents - 2 Euros) after you used the toilet.
Tbh I think they were just looking for an excuse not to pay to use the bathroom.
I notice there are no ads on this channel. Is he not monetized?
So the coffee cost the same whether it was going in or going out.
Bruh imagine having to pay to pee! It's not like that's something you litteraly can't control! XD
If you charge to use a toilet, you deserve to step on a lego.
I never knew they had locks like that before. Wow.
LPL, are your newer videos sped up a bit? They sound higher pitched than the ones from years ago.
I believe those locks disappeared from stall doors in my home town because they would get beaten on severely and often broke off a chunk of door too! lol
Look at how the exit knob is stained brown...
There were locks like this on the showers at a holiday camp we went to when I was a kid. It was easy to retract the bolt with a wire coat hanger.
I just thought of so many ways to beat a system no longer used by anyone
TRY TO GET YOUR WHAT
Unfortunately, pay turnstiles are still common in german public toilets. It would be cool if LPL showed us a way to get past them...
